In 2005-06 our patrons placed 414,426 holds via the online catalog which
was 63.1% of all holds placed.
In 2007-08 our patrons placed 1,068,864 holds via the online catalog
which was 74% of all holds placed.

I think these figures show patrons are getting more involved with doing
things for themselves as well as using the catalog remotely. Our
website and webpac usage runs about 75% remote users over the past 4
years.

Patron Reviews growth is hold steady over the past 2.5 years as well at
about 1200 per year. So far this year July and August, the reviews are
up by 100 over the same time period as last year.

The option to "freeze" holds is a very good feature as well for our
patrons. It's great when going on vacation you can put your DVD hold
requests on freeze, so you don't miss out when they come up.

This coming Tuesday we are launching the ability for patrons to change
their home library and reset their PIN. On a weekly average we get at
least 3 reset PIN requests via Virtual Reference. I have no idea how
many we get at the circulation desks but my guess is quite a few.

Patron Record Modifications: We have been giving them the options to
change their email address and phone since coming up on III 2.5 years
ago. We do not give them the option to change their address they have to
come with proof for that one. We also added expiration date to their
patron view. Our policy is to expire their card once a year. Many
don't realize their expiration is coming due. We tried to send an email
a couple weeks before their expiration date but due to firewall issues
on our end and the fact AOL and several other email hosts blocked the
email, we found it was not worth the effort. The addition of the
expiration date in their patron view seems to be helping the issue.

In today's world, patrons want to be able to do it themselves,
especially for the simple things. It also helps those patrons working
at home after hours, when they need access to the online library
resources. Being able to do it themselves is a real plus.

Subject: [IUG] My Millennium

We are getting ready to implement My Millennium in our library (Clermont
Co.
Public Library) and wonder if you could send us some information about
it
such as what it does for you, how popular it is with your patrons, some
testimonials, how it works etc. so that we can present it to our
Administrative staff as documentation of its success in other library
systems.

We appreciate any tips you can give us!

Sincerely,

Rhonda Guenther
