More follow up on this issue. Innovative did install the patch from
Release 2007 1.1 onto our server, but it did not have any effect.
I took Tom and Kristi's advice and looked at outstanding patches for
Internet Explorer 6 on the machines I was working with. I installed the
latest "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6" for my
machine and that did it. I did the same for the Windows 98 machine I
had at a different location. In all, I patched 7 machines, and all 7
were able to login after the latest updates were installed.
Your mileage is going to vary not only based on the operating system,
but the service pack as well. It's best just to go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install all the latest updates,
but especially anything for Internet Explorer that is cumulative.
Thanks to Tom, Kristi and Phil for helping out. I do appreciate the
assistance. Just another example of how great this list is.

Let me add to Kristi's response. We found that this problem only
occurred on completely unpatched versions of IE6. Any patched version
of IE6 worked fine. Patrons don't need to switch to Firefox or upgrade
to IE7 (although the former is always recommended!).

Steve (et al.):
We had the same issue with patron logins from library OPACS and home
computers after we upgraded to Release 2007.
We found that those who had problems were running an unpatched version
of IE 6. Once we had those libraries (and recommended to patrons
accessing from home) upgrade the internet browser we have had no further
reports of login trouble.

Subject: [IUG] SSL Port, IE 6 and Win 2000/98
Hello IUG Listers,
I've got a weird problem that's arisen after we upgraded to release
2007. On machines running Windows 98 or 2000 and IE 6, our patrons
cannot login to their accounts online. In fact, they cannot even get to
'/patroninfo'-- our OPAC uses an SSL port for logins so our link to
'/patroninfo' is converted immediately to https. We think SSL is a
possible source of the problem, but to this point nothing has worked:
clearing the cache, cookies, etc. on these machines.
Has anyone seen this and have a possible solution? Many thanks in
advance.
