In June our item record numbers rolled over as follows:

from i99999997 to i100000009

NOTE: the record number went from a total of 8 digits to a total of 9 digits (including the check digit)

The rollover was completely seamless. We did not have to do anything at our end, other than alerting library staff that item record numbers would now be 1 digit longer for new records..

So, no, numbering did not start over.

Subject: [IUG] Record numbering

Can someone tell me what happens to record numbering when a system reaches
record number 99999999 of any given type?

We "think" -- but I have not been able to confirm in the manual or FAQ's --
that numbering starts over, with an algorithm preventing the creation of
duplicate record numbers. In our case, we believe numbering would begin
over with 91...... ; the last order record in the system at this writing is
o99058054 and the last item is i99372745.

Has anyone gotten to the point in their numbering scheme to observe what
happens?
