Subject: [IUG] Call For Functional Experts - Enhancements Committee

DO YOU WANT TO BE A FUNCTIONAL EXPERT?
Read on for more information.

NO? REALLY?
Read this and you might just be convinced to apply.

NOT SURE WHAT A FUNCTIONAL EXPERT IS?
Please, please read on!

--------------------------------
IUG ENHANCEMENTS COMMITTEE
--------------------------------

The IUG Enhancement Committee consists of 14 teams of Functional Experts and two Co-coordinators. Each team is assigned an enhancements category: for example, "Circulation Functionality" or "Acquisitions." Each team has 2-4 FEs who work together to examine and evaluate the enhancement requests in their category and create ballot items for the IUG Enhancement ballot.

---------------------------------
DUTIES OF A FUNCTIONAL EXPERT
---------------------------------

* Work with other FEs assigned to your category and determine how you will divide up the work and review incoming enhancement requests;

* Screen incoming enhancement requests to eliminate duplicates, functions already possible and functions already scheduled for an upcoming release;

* Contact requester, when necessary, to seek clarification regarding submitted enhancement requests;

* Communicate with III Product Managers and get feedback on requests;

* Evaluate remaining requests to determine which will appear on the final ballot;

* Combine and/or reword enhancement requests as needed to create clear and concise items for the ballot.

---------------------
SEEKING VOLUNTEERS
---------------------

We are seeking volunteers to serve as Functional Experts for the 2009 cycle. Each team will include IUG members from different library types to ensure a balanced approach that will address the needs of different library types and provide a greater balance to the overall enhancements process itself. We strongly encourage and are seeking people with various backgrounds (public, academic, consortia, law, school, medical, etc.) to apply.

----------------
QUALIFICATIONS
----------------

* At least two years experience with the category in which they wish to serve;
* Must be from an IUG member library;
* Ability to work within the 2009 enhancements schedule (see below);
* Attend the IUG FE Meeting and Dinner: IUG 17 on Sunday, May 17, 2009 @ 5PM in Anaheim, CA ~ free food! Accommodations can be made to those who cannot travel to the meeting.

-------------------
TERMS OF SERVICE
-------------------

The typical term of service for Functional Experts is 2 - 3 enhancement cycles (2 - 3 years). Staggered appointments with "term limits" help ensure that fresh ideas and views are continually brought into the process. About 1/3 of the FEs cycle off the committee each year so new FEs are always teamed with veterans to provide some consistency and passing along of knowledge of the process. You will not be alone!

---------------------------
NEW INN-REACH CATEGORY
---------------------------

Both IUG and III support adding an enhancement category for INN-Reach in the 2009 cycle. We currently have 13 major categories and this will be our 14th. We are seeking to recruit 2 Functional Experts. It would be best if this duo includes someone with some DCB knowledge and someone with some IR in an III local system knowledge. Since the FE does NOT have to be the system coordinator/administrator, we're hoping that getting this combination will not be too difficult. The FEs will together (and with the FEs for other modules) to analyze, combine, reword, etc. the submissions. These FEs will work together and use FEs from the other 13 categories as resources.
