Carla,
You can reset the count use to 0 through rapid update. Just create a
list of the items you want to reset, then go to rapid update, select
your review file and select the appropriate field: 93 INTL USE or 94
COPY USE or &$ IUSE3. Then, key in 0 for the value and click on start.
All records in your review file will be set back to 0.

I hope this helps.

We're not currently making full use of Count Use, and I like the idea of
using it for books that were browsed but not checked out. Is it
possible to reset the Count Use to 0?

Thanks,

Carla

My library also typically changes the status of an item in the manner
you are describing. This is done for setting to missing, mending, hold
shelf when a patron calls to come pick up, and to withdrawn.

Our Librarians use the "withdrawn" status when discarding items, then
our systems office periodically does a create list of everything in
withdrawn status and deletes them in mass, also updating OCLC holdings
as part of the process.

As for Count Use, most libraries in our consortia does not use it, but
my library does use it everytime things are picked up from around the
library (tables, floor, shelves, etc). This allows us to find those
items that are checked out or listed as missing, plus one of the circ
reports I run every month is based on Internal Count Use, which can be
used to demonstrate how much we "really" shelve.

We change status the way you mentioned. We use "Count Use--Internal
Use" to scan the barcodes of items that do not get checked out
(reference, genealogy) so that we can track which ones are being used
internally. We allow selectors to delete items when they weed.

Hello

Do any of you change the item status simply by scanning an item barcode?
Currently, our staff goes to Search/Holds, positions the index on
barcode, scans the item barcode, selects the record, selects the item
tab, positions the cursor in the status field, and double clicks on the
status field to select the appropriate item status, clicks Save.

We are eager to stream line this process.

I have seen Count-Use - Internal Use,
Count-Use - Copy Use,
Count Use - Item Use3
which allows for an item barcode to be scanned - are you using this
function in some way?

Does anyone have a status set-up "Waiting to be Deleted" for example?
We would like to start weeding and I wondered if your libraries only
allow Tech Services to Delete Items - or if you authorize that for the
selectors

Thanks
