Out of curiosity, what is the token being used to pull the ISBN in the
bibdisplay?
Currently, I've gotten the Google Book Search Viewability code to work
fine in the briefcit.html page, but I'm having trouble pulling the ISBN
out by it self. Currently, I'm using the following code:
<span title="*" class="gbs-thumbnail-large gbs-remove-on-failure">
<!--{recordinfo:i}-->
</span>
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Subject: Re: [IUG] Google Books on bibdisplay
Thanks for providing this info. I'd already experimented with
Annette Bailey's code - which displays the Google link from within
briefcit - but was looking for a way of providing a link via the bib.
record (and being a javascript novice, I am very much relying on
other peoples' solutions for implementation in our catalogue). At
the moment I have yours and Annette's versions working in our 2082
catalogue so it is interesting to compare the hit rates. I believe
both versions rely on isbn matching, although Annette's code is only
displaying hits for partial or full preview, and not basic.
See for example a search on 'coastal ecology':
http://library.deakin.edu.au:2082/search/?searchscope=1&searchtype=X&sea
rcharg=coastal+ecology&submit=Search
The initial browse display brings up Annette's code, and the first
thing I notice is the impressive hit rate - out of the first 50
displayed, 23 records have a link to a partial preview.
At the bib record level however, only 9 of these 23 records have a
link to a partial preview.
As expected, some bibliographic records have links to basic
information, whereas these links are absent from the browse display.
I would be interested to know if anyone can explain why there is such
a discrepancy with the hit rates for the partial preview? (obviously
it's to do with the javascript that generates the Google links from
the bib. display but beyond that I have no idea)
The other thing I wanted to mention - and which is probably more
relevant to the Australian IUG but may be of interest here - is
matching on OCLC numbers only is not very useful for us, being an
Australian library. We source most of our records from Libraries
Australia, where the OCLC number is routinely stripped from the 001
field and replaced by Libraries Australia's own control
number. Having said that, we do have some records in our catalogue
that have a legitimate OCLC number. We also have records with
LCCNs. ISBN matching is probably the best, but ideally code that
utilises all three possible matching points would be preferable.
Thanks,
Michelle.
