Try searching:

^[0-9]{4}$

This should match fields that contain exactly 4 digits.

Subject: [IUG] regular expression problem

I am unable to search for a 4 digit number in a particular patron field.
When I try matches [0-9]{4} I get both, 4 digits and 4+ digits.
When I add a space at the end [0-9]{4}[ ] , I get nothing. Does
anyone know how I can identify when the field only contain a 4 digit
number?
