- Subject: Re: [IUG] SIP2 checkout vs. Materials booking in Release 2007. Fixed?
Dear Andrew
We upgraded to R2007 early in April and have thoroughly tested the fixes for
the bookings problems for which we had been waiting for quite some time.
We can confirm that the problem where any future bookings on an item outwith
our normal Short Loan period of 4hrs was preventing a user being able to
check-out that item on our Self-Issue machines is now resolved.
However, we were disappointed to discover that the Self-Issue system will not
calculate and allow a shortened loan period, even if there are several hours
left before the start of a booking period for another patron , unless that
patron places a booking.
e.g.
> Patron A has an item booked from 12pm to 4pm today;
> Patron B tries to check the item out at 10am today (hoping to get it for the 2
hours the item is ?technically? free before Patron A?s booking starts) but the
check-out is not permitted unless Patron B books the item for the shortened
period. We had hoped that the Self-Issue system would now be capable of
shortening the length of a loan period for Patron B so that it ends just before
the start the next booking for Patron A, irrespective of whether Patron B had
made a booking for that shortened period or not. If Patron B were to take the
item in question to a Service Desk PC the staff member there would be alerted
to the booking made by Patron A and have the
choice of:
?OVERRIDE or DO NOT OVERRIDE?. If they choose OVERRIDE the system calculates
and displays the appropriate due date/time(i.e. ending 10 mins before the start
of the booking for Patron A). It would seem that the Self-Issue programme
defaults to choosing DO NOT OVERRIDE.
We reported these findings to Innovative who have come back to us saying that
this behavior is exactly as the new functionality was designed.
If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me, either on or
off the list.
