INFORMATION SYSTEMS DIVISION MANAGER - HEAD OF LIBRARY AUTOMATION & TECHNICAL SERVICES - Nashville Public Library

Position Description:
This position performs the administrative and managerial duties involved in overseeing the Technical Services division of the Public Library including library automation services, collection development, cataloging, and acquisitions. Duties include:
Provide strategic and effective management of Automation & Technical Services department to continually seek innovative ways to improve quality of public services and efficiency of operation.
Ø Play a strategic role in transforming the delivery of information to customers at a leading public library in a rapidly changing information environment.
Ø Provides leadership in plan, development and implementation of personalized, customer-focused services to meet the evolving needs of a new generation of library customers.
Ø Responsibility for collection development, materials acquisition, cataloging for the system
Ø Formulating/recommending budgets and resources for areas of responsibility
Ø Working with other administrative staff to formulate policies and plan the goals and objectives for the system
Ø Supervision of division managers
Ø Assisting in the planning of new and remodeled facilities regarding collection development and automation systems
Ø Assisting with long range planning for the system
Ø Serving on system wide and community committees
Minimum Requirements:
Preferred
Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of professional library experience, including three (3) years of experience managing and directing the work of a public library branch or department. The Library Science program must be accredited by the American Library Association.
OR
Master's degree in an appropriate field and six (6) years of computer or information technology/strategic planning experience including three (3) years of experience managing and directing the work of a department or division that includes computer or information technology responsibilities.
Preferred Skills/Abilities/Experience
Ability to provide strong leadership and management and to work collaboratively in an environment of continuous change
Strong planning, organizational, budgetary, analytical and project management skills
Record of creative problem-solving with an interest and involvement in emerging digital information environment
Ability to study and apply future technology trends to library setting with strategic innovation thinking
Ability to plan, organize and supervise library services
Ability to develop system wide policies and procedures for library services
Ability to make effective public presentations
Experience in public library collection development, cataloging and materials acquisitions
Licenses Required: A valid "Class D" driver's license may be required.
