Actually, MarcEdit can convert directly from a tab-delimited text file to
MARC. It even lets you determine how you want to map certain columns to
certain MARC tags, so you don't have to pre-edit the file in Word (or
whatever) to insert those MARC tags. In the version of MarcEdit I have
(4.6.63), this feature is the second option under "Add-ins" called
"Delimited Text Translator." Pretty slick, I say.

Hi Pamela,
I've done this several times with Excel files. Unfortunately I don't have
the process documented but here it is in a nutshell:
Edit the Excel file so you put a column in front of every existing column.
Put the appropriate MARC tag in each cell of the new columns.
Save the Excel file as a tab delimited text file. Open it in Word and
doing tons of find and replace passes, make it look like a MarcEdit text
file. Open in MarcEdit and convert to Marc. Load into Millennium using

Is there any way to import an Excel text file into Millennium? I'm
looking for a way to create brief records in the system from an Excel
file. Probably not possible, but if anyone would know it would be the
list members. Thanks
