Possibly a cleaner solution than note fields, is to export the data and 
keep it on file outside the III system.  That way, your item records 
won't get cluttered up, you won't have to worry about inappropriate 
modification, and you also won't have to deal with how to extract the 
data from the notes when you want to use it.
