Even in the worst case scenario, if you were unable to have useful access
through Oracle, you should not despair. By exporting sets of MARC records
that include the data of interest, you can have access without too much
trouble (but allow yourself plenty of time). Alternatively, you can send
sets of data gleaned through "create lists".
In either case you can get a set of records that represents what you need,
or the closest broader set to what you need. If need be you can prune the
data down with your own program code.
I would love to make & share a generalized program to allow people to
manipulate datasets like these without programming knowledge, but do not
presently have the time. It would be straightforward, relatively simple.
On this issue I'm likely to continue to sound like a broken record, but
working with raw data is my groove.
If we are not talking the dismal worst case, so much the simpler ...

Subject: SQL queries of MARC data
Hello. We are a brand new Millennium site. We are running Millennium on an
Oracle database and would like write SQL statements that pull data from the
MARC records. It seems like this should be easy to do, but we haven't been
able to figure it out and the folks at Innovative, for whatever reason, have
not been forthcoming with the information. Maybe it's not possible, but I
thought I would poll the gurus, as it seems like it should be one of the
simplest queries possible.
Thanks very much in advance,
