The Principal Cataloger/Assistant Department Head plans and manages the staff (7 FTE) and daily operations of the Serials, Monograph, Copy-Cataloging and Catalog Maintenance Units of the Cataloging & Metadata Services Department. Responsibilities include serving as a resource person regarding cataloging issues both within the Department and in other areas of the Libraries. The Principal Cataloger performs original and complex cataloging and authority work for all types of formats and manages and contributes to cataloging and metadata for digital projects. Leads or coordinates selected cataloging projects to be either outsourced or managed internally. As a member of the Cataloging Management Committee, the Principal Cataloger participates in developing local cataloging policies and procedures, and in local implementation of changes in national standards, rules and best practices for cataloging. In consultation with the Department Head and appropriate staff, the position will help to determine needs, design training curricula including coordinating and delivering training and establishing performance standards for cataloging staff. The Principal Cataloger is expected to maintain awareness of and engagement with national and international trends and developments in cataloging and metadata standards, bibliographic and authority control, and knowledge management. Other duties include participation in library committees, task forces, and special projects, particularly those related to cataloging, metadata application and bibliographic control. The position reports to the Head of the Cataloging & Metadata Services Department. Working hours are normally Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

The collection development librarian is responsible for developing a collection development policy that values a balanced collection in all areas of the curriculum and for all bibliographic and physical formats, including digital. The successful candidate will have the knowledge and experience to assess the collection. Working with library faculty and staff, and teaching faculty, he or she will possess the leadership and management skills to develop new collection policy and to successfully implement that policy. This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position and reports directly to the Library Director. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. Competitive salary range (minimum salary of $45,000 at Instructor level).

University of Houston-Clear Lake seeks an Electronic Resources Librarian to oversee electronic information resources for the Alfred R. Neumann Library.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree of Library Science (MLS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program to be completed no later than December 2008. Coursework related to electronic resources management, technical services, or cataloging. Strong, effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, service-oriented, rapidly changing environment. Ability to form and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of electronic resources, including issues relating to their sources, acquisitions, organization, and use. Experience with database, spreadsheets and internet searching. Knowledge of standard practices in the evaluation, selection, licensing and acquisition of electronic information resources. Security sensitive - must pass criminal history check before an offer will be made.

Scarborough-Phillips Library seeks a service-oriented, enthusiastic librarian to manage print and electronic serials: identifying new resources, implementing access to online serials subscriptions, negotiating licensing agreements with vendors, managing invoicing, collecting usage statistics, and collecting and disseminating subscription information to librarians for review as needed. Manage operation of serials department including daily processing, binding, claiming, invoicing, and other serials-related functions. Supervise one student worker. Collaborate with technical services/electronic resources as needed in areas of overlap. Prepare collection development budget recommendations and reports and drafts fund allocation proposals for the Library Director each fiscal year. Closely monitor entire acquisitions budget and submits both oral and written reports on a regular basis. Stay current with trends in electronic and print serials. Develop library collection in assigned subject areas and acts as liaison to faculty in these areas. Participate in reference and library instruction as assigned. Hours may include some evenings and weekends.
