Director, Library & Information Services (Rio Rancho Public Library)

DIRECTOR, LIBRARY & INFORMATION SERVICES

Under the direction of the City Manager and the advice of the Library Board, the Director of Library and Information Services is responsible for the planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of all public library services, facilities, and programs.

Develops a vision and strategic plan for the library system for approval by the City Manager and Library Board.

Plans for facilities development and financing, working with City Financial advisors, administration architects, planners, and interested members of the community.

Plans for and facilitates regular bond referenda, grant writing, and fund raising to secure county, state, federal, and private funding for materials, equipment, and technology. Acts as regional leader to carry out projects, including follow-up to advise county librarians on proper administration and expending of bond funds.

Maintains a presence in the community ensuring the success of the library’s partnerships and other relationships through public relations and library marketing skills. Develops partnerships with other library systems, government agencies, local business, and community organizations to improve services to the community. Represents the City’s interests on a local, state, and national level on boards and committees to advocate for public libraries.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Masters Degree in Library Science, five years experience in a public library environment and one year of experience doing original cataloging required. Supervisory experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of: Principles and practices of library technical services administration including personnel rules, budgeting, strategic planning and effective employee supervision; techniques and practices for efficient and cost effective management of resources. Cataloging experience and knowledge of acquisitions, serials, and collection development methods and procedures for developing and maintaining library collections. Experience with Innovative Interfaces system highly desirable.

Library Resident in Research and Instruction Services (University of New Mexico Libraries)

The University of New Mexico Libraries has an opening (JR# 6179) for a Library Resident in Research and Instruction Services.  This is a full-time, 12 month faculty position.  The desired start date is July 1, 2007.  The faculty rank will be Lecturer III, visiting status.  This position may be extended by the University Libraries for up to one additional year subject to program needs, library budget, and job performance.  The annual salary is $40,000.

Position Description
This post-MLS residency is designed for recent graduates of ALA accredited library and information science programs.  Prior professional experience is not expected.  The resident will participate in an extensive orientation program that provides the opportunity to develop expertise in all aspects of an academic research library including research and instruction services, public and technical services, library administration, special collections, library research programs and library technology.  This position reports directly to the Director of Zimmerman Library. Residents will participate in faculty governance as detailed in the UNM Faculty Handbook.

Coordinator, Research Materials Bibliographic Access (RMBA) Unit (University of New Mexico Libraries)

The University of New Mexico Libraries (UL) has an opening (JR#6181) for a Coordinator of the Research Materials Bibliographic Access Unit (RMBA). This is a full-time, 12 month, tenure-track faculty position. The reporting line is to the Assistant Dean for Research and Instruction Services. The desired start date is May 1, 2007. The faculty rank and tenure-track level are negotiable appropriate to qualifications and experience. The salary is negotiable from a minimum of $60,000.
Primary Duties:
In a highly automated environment, the Coordinator is responsible for providing library-wide leadership and intra-organizational communication and coordination of complex cataloging (adaptive and original), meta data selection and handling, and physical processing activities (including receiving and order creation for Spanish and Portuguese materials) for research materials in print and other - mainly electronic - formats.
