Systems Librarian (Clemson University)

Clemson University seeks an energetic, creative, service-oriented and technologically-savvy librarian to be an integral part of the newly established Digital Initiatives and Information Technology Unit. This unit will undertake projects in digitization, institutional repository development, e-science and local integrated library system enhancement. The Systems Librarian is a 12-month tenure-track position with faculty rank. Clemson library faculty members participate in library-wide planning and governance, work in a shared decision-making environment, and are encouraged to be active in university service and professional organizations.

Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Unit Head for Digital Initiatives and Information Technology, administers and provides operational and user support for Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium, the Libraries’ ILS; in consultation with public service units, maintains OPAC interface; serves as contact person with Innovative Interfaces, Inc. Monitors daily status of applications, upgrades software when needed, and coordinates with other campus offices and systems.

Hires, directs and evaluates systems staff who provide Libraries’ desktop, server, and application support, and who manage the joint Libraries/Computer Center Help Desk.

To further information technology service and integration with the Libraries and campus computing, the Systems Librarian is a member of the Libraries’ User Services Group and relevant campus committees, and seeks opportunities to collaborate with university, statewide and national information initiatives.

Maintains current knowledge of library technology trends, including open-source software development, and is active in relevant professional organizations.

Required Qualifications/Experience:
• ALA-accredited master’s degree (or foreign equivalent as determined by ALA-recommended procedures)
• Minimum of two years of experience supporting an integrated library system in a medium to large library environment
• Minimum of one year of recent experience supervising and mentoring staff
• Demonstrated knowledge of information technology standards, protocols, issues and trends
• Experience in developing and sustaining IT projects; knowledge of web design and tools for web editing (i.e. Dreamweaver/Photoshop)
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication (oral and written) skills
• Demonstrated understanding of MARC and related XML standards

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
• Experience with Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium system
• Two years of recent management experience in an IT environment
• Experience working with consortia, campus IT or other large IT organization
• Experience working with UNIX, Linux and Windows servers
• Knowledge of one or more scripting or programming languages
• Experience working with relational databases
• Knowledge of FRBR
• Previous experience in an academic library setting

Salary and Benefits:
Minimum $50,000; rank and competitive salary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. State of South Carolina, TIAA-CREF, or other retirement plans available. Various medical plans, dental plans, 18 days annual leave, 15 days sick leave, 12 paid holidays, and liberal professional development leave are provided. Clemson University offers up to six credit hours to employees each semester. Library faculty receive an individual stipend for travel or other professional development activity

The Position

The Reference Librarian will provide reference and research service to law students, faculty, the law school community, members of the Bar and the public using a complete range of print and electronic information sources. The Reference Librarian compiles bibliographies and user guides, provides bibliographic instruction and participates in the faculty liaison program. The Reference Librarian assists in selecting materials for purchase and for evaluating and weeding the collection. The Reference Librarian also assists in the reference desk rotation including evening and weekend hours. This position reports to the Public Services Librarian.

Coastal Carolina University invites applications for the newly created position of Executive Director of Library and Instructional Technology Services. The Exec Dir is the senior administrative officer of the University’s Kimbel Library and Instructional Technology Services and reports directly to the Provost. S/he is responsible for the leadership, organization, administration, operation, and evaluation of library and instructional technology services, physical facilities, faculty and staff, collections, and budgets. In concert with faculty, staff, and students, the Executive Director promotes the educational objectives of the University by leading the development of a shared vision of how the Library and Instructional Technology Services serve the University community. A particular emphasis of the position shall be enhancing the development of the library as a center for learning, enhancing its collections, and integrating new technologies in support of scholarly communication and learning. S/he actively represents the Library and University in local, regional, and national library and instructional technology organizations. As a leader, manager, and supervisor within a complex organization, the Executive Director is responsible for building a library services team committed to organizational goals. In this capacity, s/he actively promotes collaborative approaches to decision-making and implementation.
