This key position is responsible for developing a vision for implementing and assessing the Libraries’ instruction and reference services for students, faculty and staff in support of their research, teaching and learning. This person will enhance a well-established and successful academic department liaison program, incorporate best practices into instruction and reference services, and promote the use of emerging technologies. The successful candidate must be an accomplished leader, skilled in managing change, and flexible in response to user expectations.

Head of Instructional & Research Support Services

Eastern Washington University Libraries seek an innovator and catalyst for change in developing reference, instruction, and media programs and services. As a member of the library faculty and management team, the Head of Instructional and Research Support Services engages with faculty and staff throughout the university and the Libraries to ensure that the Libraries provide high quality reference, instruction, and media services that are adaptive and relevant to changing needs of students and faculty. By example as a practicing faculty member, collaboration with colleagues within and outside the Libraries, and effective management practices, the person in this leadership position will guide librarians and staff in providing creative, student-centered approaches to fulfilling the Libraries’ mission to “stimulate and support intellectual inquiry.”

Performs original and member copy cataloging in all formats, including electronic, in accordance with AACR2R, OCLC input standards, LCSH, and LC Classification. Performs database maintenance in Griffin, the WSU Libraries’ online integrated system. Serves as a resource person and trainer for paraprofessional staff concerning cataloging, database maintenance, and workflow issues. Works with the Head of Bibliographic Control on the development and implementation of unit procedures and goals. Works with the Head of Bibliographic Control as liaison to other library units, the WSU community, and outside institutions to insure the effectiveness of the library online integrated system. Utilizes a variety of metadata schemes to organize and provide access to all WSU Libraries collections. Provides two hours of reference service weekly.

WWU seeks candidates who have a clear vision for the future of academic libraries and their role in the teaching, learning, and research processes. The Dean reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, is a member of the Provost’s Council, and is responsible for the overall leadership, management and direction of the libraries and their programs. Assistant Dean for Digital Futures and Technical Services (Washington State University Libraries, Pullman, Washington)

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Dean for Digital Futures and Technical Services is responsible for providing vision and leadership that both reflects current needs and anticipates future trends in the evolving library and information environment.  This position handles oversight for the functional areas of collections, acquisitions, cataloging, preservation, serials, electronic resources, and systems.  The Assistant Dean will support collaboration across the units of the Pullman libraries and with
WSU sites around the state in consonance with the Libraries’ Strategic Plan and WSU’s land-grant institution status.  The Assistant Dean will actively participate in the expansion and maintenance of the WSU Libraries’ digital initiatives, including fundraising and long-term planning.  The Assistant Dean promotes a working environment in which
all employees are supported in developing their skills so that they can
contribute to the maximum of their ability, and facilitates the WSU Libraries’ efforts in building an open, collaborative organization.

This full-time, 12-month position reports to the Dean of Libraries.
