The University of California, Irvine Libraries seek an energetic and enthusiastic librarian for the position of Principal Monographs Cataloger to provide leadership and expertise in the cataloging of monograph publications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of the Cataloging Department, the Principal Monographs Cataloger coordinates and participates in the bibliographic control of monographs and provides leadership within the Cataloging Department and throughout the Libraries for the formulation of policies and procedures related to public access to monographic publications. Performs original and complex copy cataloging for all types of monographs in a variety of formats, languages and subjects using the Library of Congress and National Library of Medicine classification and subject headings. Provides management, supervision, and evaluation of 7.5 FTE staff who produce original bibliographic and authority records for monographs in the full range of formats and a wide variety of languages. Provides staff training and serves as a resource person regarding monographic cataloging within the Cataloging Department and throughout the Libraries. Works collaboratively with other Cataloging Department section leaders and participates in departmental management as a member of the Cataloging Policy Committee. Participates in library committees, task forces, and special projects, particularly those related to monographic cataloging. Monitors trends and maintains currency in emerging issues in bibliographic control of monographs.

Firm Technical Services Librarian
Large DC office of international law firm seeks experienced Technical Services Librarian to serve as the Firm library’s principal specialist for the functions specific to cataloging, serials and maintenance of access to the library’s intellectual resources. Primary responsibilities include working with the Systems and Technology Manager to ensure overall operational efficiency of the Technical Services department and establish Firmwide policies, standards, and procedures in the area of technical services. In addition, this position performs daily technical services work in an area of expertise (cataloging and serials); collects and analyzes Technical Services’ statistics and then prepares reports; and assists in providing direction and training to all Firm library technical service staff.
Successful candidates must have excellent communication (oral-written) skills; possess the ability to work independently; demonstrate initiative; set priorities and see projects through completion; meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities; handle several tasks simultaneously; and work within a team setting. Masters in Library or Information Science; working knowledge of MARC, AACR2, OCLC Connexion and other library technical service tools; and a minimum three years of progressively responsible technical services experience in an automated environment required. Law library and knowledge of and experience with integrated library systems, such as Innovative Interfaces are preferred.
