Technology Librarian (Washburn University)
Washburn University invites applications for the position of Technology Librarian to assist in the application and use of systems, networks and instructional design technology within the University Libraries. An enthusiasm for change is required as the Washburn Libraries chart their future for the 21st Century learning environment. The successful candidate will serve as the Systems Administrator for the Topeka ATLAS consortium that shares an Innovative Interfaces, Inc. system, will act as the representative to the Innovative Users Group and serve as liaison between the Library and Information Systems and Services. The Technology Librarian will be a collaborative partner in technological outreach in a variety of areas, including but not limited to giving support for instructional design initiatives and website innovation.
Washburn University is a comprehensive Masters degree granting institution of about 7400 students, located in the Capital City of Kansas, Topeka. With small class sizes (median upper division class size is 10 students, and an overall student/faculty ratio of 15:1) and outstanding faculty (over 90% having the terminal degree in their field), Washburn is highly ranked as an independent public institution, rated 4th in the Midwest among public Master’s level universities in 2006 by U.S. News and World Report. The University’s endowment of $100M+ ranks it near the top among masters degree institutions in endowment per student. The University has initiated an exciting program for its students called the “Washburn Transformational Experience,” with the anticipation that the library will play a key role in supporting this initiative.
Requirements:
• An ALA-accredited MLS or a degree in Computer Information Systems, with a demonstrated commitment to the library as a central institution within the life of the university
• Strong knowledge of emerging electronic information and outreach technology and its implications for the University community
• Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and applications software problems to ensure a 24/7 connectivity to the Library for its patrons
• Outstanding interpersonal skills in achieving cooperative, productive working relationships with library staff, faculty, students and other libraries
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills, and the ability to quickly acquire new skills
• The necessary vision and leadership skills to position the Library to meet future needs
Preferred:
• Experience managing an automated library system
• Experience with ARIEL and other electronic loan software
• Familiarity with remote patron authentication
• Experience with Instructional Design theories and technology
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
