Access and Collections Services Manager (Menlo College)

The Bowman Library at Menlo College seeks an experienced library technician to join our library services team in actively pursuing innovative models for enhancing its services and collections through acquisitions, cataloging, processing, document delivery, and database management in an electronic library environment. POSITION: Access and Collections Services Manager

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Dean of Library and Information Services. As a key member of the Library Team, works closely with the Librarians, the Information Integration Architect, the Access Services Assistant, and the Dean of Library and Information Services.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsible for operations and systems supporting the Library’s public and collections services, including circulation and reserves, interlibrary loan and document delivery, stacks maintenance, acquisitions, and cataloging of library materials.
Primary responsibilities:

1. Providing and managing responsive, efficient customer service for circulation, reserves, and interlibrary loan and document delivery services including:

· Circulation and course reserve services, including processing and maintenance of these materials;

· Maintaining patron records database;

· Managing overdue fines and accounts

· Supervising Access Services Assistant;

· Hiring, training, supervising, scheduling student library assistants;

· Monitors and manages the Library’s student assistants’ budget;

· Library shelving and stacks maintenance operations;

· Interpreting and explaining library policies and procedures;

· Training staff on circulation system;

· Managing interlibrary loan and electronic access to resources through OCLC and document delivery vendors.

2. Acquiring, processing, and preserving materials for the Library’s collections of monographs and serials, in all formats including:

· Processing orders using WWW interface to materials vendors and suppliers;

· Copy cataloging using OCLC;

· Serials check-in, shelf preparation, and claiming;

· Order receiving, check-in, and shelf preparation;

· Managing library periodicals collection;

· Serials database maintenance;

· Supervises receipt and disposition of gifts.

3. Managing library operations, facilities, and equipment, including:

· Operating schedule of the Library building;

· Building security during hours of library operation;

· Following established procedures, opens, closes and secures Library building;

· Library supplies inventory, including ordering.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 yrs recent paraprofessional or related technical services or circulation experience in an academic or special library;

· Demonstrated knowledge of the Library of Congress classification system;

· Experience copy cataloging using OCLC;

· Experience using an automated circulation system;

· Experience with acquisitions and/or cataloging processes for monographs and serials, including media and electronic formats;

· Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;

· Strong commitment to public service;

· Knowledge of the Internet and Web;

· Proven ability to establish, maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public;

· 1-2 years successful supervisory and training experience;

· Effective written and oral communication skills;

· Ability to work effectively managing multiple priorities in a rapidly changing environment;

· Some evening and weekend hours may be required on rotating basis with other staff.
PREFERRED:

· Innovative Interfaces ILS experience;

· Library facilities management; experience managing library collections;

· Familiarity with issues, trends in library public services and/or collection maintenance in an electronic environment.

Self-assurance; flexibility; and a sense of humor; plus the ability to find one’s feet quickly and keep one’s balance performing a wide range of activities. of responsibilities; and has a broad range of intellectual interests.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
