The North Bend Public Library is recruiting for a friendly, enthusiastic, and creative Assistant Library Director. This position manages the day to day operations of the library, working with the staff and volunteers to deliver excellent library services to the public.

The library has stable funding through the Coos County Library Service District. There are eight public libraries in the district. The library is located on the beautiful southern Oregon coast, minutes away from the ocean, public beaches and outstanding parks. North Bend is about two hours from Eugene, home of the University of Oregon.

The library is an elegant, 24,852 sq. ft. building completed in 1989 that is much-loved and well-used by the public. The library is very well-equipped with two meeting rooms, public access computers, a wireless network, Innovative Interfaces ILS, reference and reading areas, and a collection of 115,000 items. The library offers many programs throughout the year, including the Oregon Book Award authors event, and a very popular Summer Reading Program. There is a strong focus on early literacy for young children, through Story and Music Time programs, and a Sign Language workshop for parents.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a Master’s in Library Science, and 3 years of progressively responsible public library experience, with emphasis on working directly with the public. Any combination of education, experience and training which provides the ability to perform the essential functions of this position will be considered. Candidates must be knowledgeable about public library practices, planning, and trends. Candidates must have budgeting experience utilizing spreadsheets and other analytical tools, plus skills in word processing, public speaking, and library automation software.

The individual in this position must have exceptional people and communication skills. The success candidate will be someone who loves to work with people of all ages. This position requires a team player with high energy, a good sense of humor, and a complete dedication to working closely with staff, volunteers and colleagues in district libraries, to deliver outstanding customer service to patrons throughout Coos County.

Duties: The assistant director supervises and schedules a staff of 11.5 FTE, plus volunteers, develops policies and procedures, performs reference and reader’s advisory services at the public service desk, and is responsible for collection development, coordinating special programs for adults, publicity, customer service, and other duties as assigned. The assistant director also recruits and supervises volunteers.

Work Schedule: Tuesdays - Saturdays, including two nights per week. Days and hours may vary according to scheduling needs.
Salary Range: $39,742+, DOQ. Plus PERS, health and vacation benefits.
