Position Vacancy: Director, Film and Media Library

Position Description: Reports to Dean of Library & Information Services and is part of the University Library administrative team. Works closely with faculty to develop the collection and to publicize and promote its use through all campus communications channels, including the web.

The Director of the Film and Media Library will:

* Direct all operations of the Film and Media Library

* Develop, deliver and evaluate services for media collections

* Supervise 2.5 FTE library assistants and several student assistants, and conduct training for new staff

* Provides instruction and reference services for Film and Media Library users.

* Evaluate and select new materials in all formats in collaboration with subject specialists on the library faculty and faculty of other academic departments

* Maintain and update print and online indexes for films and media; works with Technical Services to facilitate cataloging of film and media materials

* Manage licensing and copyright issues for film titles; serve as resource for all campus constituencies on traditional and Digital Rights Management as it relates to still and moving images.

* Make recommendations for staffing and equipment, and monitor expenditures of budgeted funds

* Advise on the selection of new audiovisual equipment

* Provide direction on preservation of the collection.

Qualifications:

Required:

* ALA-accredited MLS and relevant experience.

* Ability to communicate successfully with all staff and patrons

* Knowledge of library systems and audiovisual equipment

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications including Excel, Word and Access.

Desired:

* Media librarianship experience in an academic library

* Background in film or media/cinema studies

* Supervisory experience

Temporary part-time or full-time position for Fall Semester 2007; some weekend and evening work may be required.

Scope of Responsibilities:

The Electronic Resources/Systems Librarian is a member of the Bowman Library team, responsible for on-site management and assistance with library applications of technology, as well as providing information, reference, and research assistance to a diverse population of students.

Key work activities include management of the library’s integrated library system (INNOPAC/Millennium), remote databases, servers, public and staff workstations, upgrades, equipment evaluation, security, backups and software installation all within a networked environment. Coordinates development and maintenance of the library’s website. Troubleshoot problems with library-specific hardware and software. Use print and electronic resources to assist patrons. Compile statistics from various sources for use in assessment. Assist with library instruction, reference, circulation and other duties as assigned. Share evening and weekend work as required.

Web & Digital Library Specialist (Center for Research Libraries)

WEB AND DIGITAL LIBRARY SPECIALIST
The Center for Research Libraries is a consortium of more than 200 leading U.S. and Canadian academic and research libraries based adjacent to the University of Chicago’s Hyde Park campus.
Working under the direction of the Director of Information Systems, the candidate selected will design, develop and implement Web enabled solutions for grant and non-grant funded projects and provide technical expertise to support digital conversion and delivery projects. In addition to determine specifications, developing and implementing new or enhanced Web applications, the position is also responsible for maintaining and updating existing Web applications and support a robust Web hosting environment.
Digital delivery accountability includes participate in hardware/software evaluations, testing and implementing scan and post processing strategies, inspecting the quality of scans from in-house and out-sources productions, monitoring the performance of digital conversion equipment and contacting system vendor for problem resolution and upgrades.

The St. Olaf College Libraries have an opening for the Head of Circulation & Interlibrary Loan.
The Head of Circulation and Interlibrary loan (a) plans, organizes, and oversees the libraries’ circulation and interlibrary loan operation and (b) serves as the point person for space planning and the use and care of Rolvaag’s collection. Leads the staff in circulation and interlibrary loan in evaluating, improving, and streamlining their work. Establishes benchmarks for the department and its staff, evaluates performance, designs and improves workflow, and measures progress on high-priority projects. Identifies and implements new technologies. Serves with other departmental heads on the libraries’ administrative council and advocates for the needs of faculty, students, departmental staff, and the library and college as a whole. Actively contributes to library-wide planning, policy-making, goal-setting and the development of new services and initiatives. Works with counterparts at Carleton College to develop consortial initiatives, and to manage and improve the shared library system. Supports the College Librarian in vetting new ideas, initiatives, and strategic plans. Works alongside staff in the circulation and interlibrary loan to run day-to-day operations.

Position Title: Head of Library Systems and Information Transfer Services

Supervisor: Library Director

Classification: Management

The Head of Library Systems and Information Transfer Services guides and facilitates the automation activities of the library, and provides leadership in addressing the automation needs of both technical and public services. The incumbent provides overall administration of the integrated library system (ILS, currently Innovative Interfaces, and Millennium), oversees the development and maintenance of the library’s web site, and provides support to library staff in the overall use of library automation, desktop applications, and web resources while participating in the library’s decision-making process by contributing information, advice and expertise on emerging technologies. Additionally, the Head of Library Systems and Information Transfer Services is responsible for the management and oversight of circulation, course reserves, and interlibrary loan services. Further, as Head of Library Systems and Information Transfer Services, the incumbent develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures for the orderly operation of the library web site and ILS, as well as those for circulation, course reserves, and interlibrary loan. Finally, as a manager the incumbent is responsible for direction and leadership of the Library Systems and Information Transfer Services group including both professional and paraprofessional personnel.
