DUTIES:
The Tri-College Library Consortium seeks a creative, collaborative, and forward-thinking individual to develop online services and support digital initiatives. Reporting to the Tri-Colleges Systems and Applications Coordinator, the incumbent will be integral in the creation and implementation of technologies to improve library services. Such technologies include federated searching, streaming media, digital repositories, the library catalog, and other projects. The Libraries of Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore Colleges are located within 10 miles of each other in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. The position is based at Swarthmore College, but the incumbent will spend time on each campus for meetings, project work, and collaboration with library staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
BA/BS or advanced degree in information or computer science or related field; coursework or experience in Library Science beneficial.
Minimum 2 years related experience.
Proficient in one or more current programming and/or scripting languages or technologies including Perl, PHP, SQL, XML.
Demonstrated knowledge of Web design and development including HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
Ability to work independently, in group settings and as a project manager
Ability to be self-directed and to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Someone who is curious, flexible, detail oriented, and has a strong commitment to the highest standards of customer service.
Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and a service-orientation.
Strong analytic and problem solving skills.
Preferred:
Experience with Windows, Linux, Unix, web servers and database application configuration (MySQL, Oracle, and Postgres a plus).
Working knowledge of standard metadata formats such as Dublin Core, MARC, etc.
Some knowledge of basic assessment, statistical analysis, and presentation of results.
Some knowledge of Photoshop, typography, and graphic design.
Familiarity with academic library technologies.
Creative outlook on the use of technology.
