The East Asian Reference/Instruction Librarian is a tenure stream faculty position reporting to the Faculty Director for Reference and Instructional Services. Duties include general and specialized reference in the social sciences and humanities with possible expanded areas associated with a one-desk concept; classroom teaching as part of an active library instruction program; selecting library materials in the areas of East Asian

Languages, primarily Chinese and/or Japanese and other commonly taught Asian languages; and guiding collection management decisions related to the East Asian collection. This position serves as the primary liaison to the East Asian Languages and Civilizations Department and the Center for Asian Studies and assumes primary responsibility for the development and delivery of services for students and faculty in these units. In addition, this position will work closely with a grant-funded Bibliographer for Asian Languages and Studies.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:
The Delaware County Library System Administrative Headquarters is a department of county government charged with supporting public library service to 550,000 county residents. DCLS is designated by the State Library of Pennsylvania as a District Library Center. Funding is received from the State of Pennsylvania, the County of Delaware and various grant funds. The 26 public libraries in the county are member of DCLS. Each library maintains its autonomy, yet cooperates with the programs and services offered by DCLS. A seven-member board of library directors sets policy for DCLS. Four non-public libraries are associate members of DCLS and contract to receive services.

The Opportunity

The Technology and Metadata Librarian supports the library operations by maintaining the library systems, incorporating new technologies and implementing innovative solutions that enhance learning and research. In a role that broadens traditional technical services responsibilities, this position coordinates changes to the integrated library system, manages bibliographic record loads, coordinates database maintenance routines, catalogs print and multimedia materials, engages in cooperative technology projects and serves the University as an integral resource within the library.

The Responsibilities

* Maintaining library information technology programs using a broad range of software and hardware.

* Working collaboratively with library staff and other campus units to implement and support digital projects and services including the library Web site.

* Managing bibliographic data loads and database maintenance routines.

* Cataloging materials in all formats.

* Helping with troubleshooting hardware and software on both campuses.

* Recommending innovative initiatives to expand library services.

* Training staff on the use of technology, databases and library systems. May participate in information literacy programs.

* Working with other technical services and systems librarians locally, in the region and internationally.

The Requirements

* Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited program or its equivalent.

* Knowledge of current library information technologies.

* Knowledge of current library bibliographic standards and cataloging rules.

* Strong communication and organizational skills.

* Experience working with Innovative Interfaces, Inc. desirable.
