Technical Support Specialist (OHIONET)
OHIONET, a not-for-profit library membership organization, has extended its search for an energetic and technologically-savvy individual to provide technical support to OPAL (Ohio Private Academic Libraries) consortium libraries and their staff to support their use of the Innovative Interfaces Millennium system. This individual will also conduct training sessions for OPAL libraries and their staff, especially in use of Millennium system’s technical services functions (cataloging, acquisitions and serials). In addition, the individual will assist in the administration of the OPAL consortium’s computer systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In consultation with other members of the OPAL system administration team and other OHIONET staff, individual will:
1. Provide technical support via email, telephone and fax to individuals with varying levels of technical expertise to effectively pursue and resolve issues.
2. Utilize programming, technical and troubleshooting skills in operating hardware and software employed by the OPAL consortium, including OPAL’s Innovative Interfaces library system.
3. Provide training in use of Millennium system technical services functions to OPAL library staff.
4. Assist in the administration of hardware, operating systems, software applications and other components of OPAL consortium’s computer systems.
5. Coordinate system service, maintenance and/or replacement with other OHIONET staff, the OPAL consortium, vendor representatives and consultants.
6. Serve as backup for other departmental staff when applicable.
7. Travel as needed to support OPAL and its member libraries.
8. Attend meetings based on the needs of the OPAL consortium.
SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelors degree or other relevant degree, or equivalent work experience education and work experience required. Relevant certifications and demonstrated professional leadership and commitment preferred.
2. Minimum of two years of experience in library system administration or end user support required. Experience with Innovative Interfaces Millennium system preferred.
3. Experience in or knowledge of library technical services operations preferred.
4. Must possess the ability to provide front-line troubleshooting in complex automated environments.
5. Must have a strong public/customer service background.
6. Must be capable of managing technical projects.
7. Should possess excellent leadership, analytic and problem-solving skills and capability of exercising sound judgment.
8. Must possess a valid State of Ohio Motor Vehicle Operator’s license or obtain such within 30 days of employment.
COMPENSATION
