Education / Reference Librarian
Responsibilities: Texas A & M University-Kingsville seeks a dynamic, service-oriented Education/Reference Librarian to serve on a team of reference professionals that provide reference and instructional services to library users. Responsible for the Educational Materials Center, which houses the Curriculum Collection, the Bilingual Collection, and the juvenile collection, the successful candidate will maintain these collections, including state-adopted textbook collection, and serve as liaison to the College of Education. Materials in these collections are in English, Spanish, or Bilingual. (predominately English and Spanish). The successful candidate will participate in bibliographic and information literacy instruction programs; help develop instructional materials; participate in regular reference duties, including some evening and weekend duty; and perform other duties as required.
Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS/MLIS degree from a regionally accredited institution or university. Demonstrated knowledge of current information resources. Willingness and ability to incorporate emerging technologies into instruction and reference services. Working knowledge of web page authoring, presentation, and office suite applications. Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work effectively in a team environment.
Desired: Degree in education. Teaching Experience. Experience with educational materials in K-12 or academic library. Knowledge of children’s literature. Skill in a second language.
Minimum Salary: $35,000. Competitive benefits package. Position is a 12-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment as visiting assistant professor subject to renewal in two years.
