Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate academic background or experience delivering library services in the social sciences, ability to provide library instruction for an undergraduate curriculum, experience with collection development, and interest in web-page creation and maintenance.

Institutional Repository & Digital Collections Librarian (University of Missouri, Rolla)

INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORY & DIGITAL COLLECTIONS LIBRARIAN (Position #00036089) Lead the day-to-day production and organization of the Scholars’ Mine, UMR’s new Institutional Repository (http://scholarsmine.umr.edu). Hire and train temporary staff and/or student workers to assist with the processing of faculty and student works into the repository. Interact with faculty to explain processing procedures, to give campus talks and general outreach regarding repository functions, and to act as the liaison between various campus entities that have a stake in the repository including the library, faculty, administration, information technology and students. Required: ALA-accredited MLS; previous experience or education involving MARC 21, Dublin Core or another meta data standard. Desired: Direct involvement with institutional repository projects, advanced degree in addition to the MLS in a research-based discipline, at least one year experience working in a college or university library, technical computer skills involving knowledge of basic programming or database principles. Proven project management skills on multi-year projects.

CATALOG/METADATA SERVICES LIBRARIAN (Position #00030971): Perform original and complex copy cataloging; maintain MARC bibliographic and authority records using OCLC and a multi-campus Innovative Interfaces system; collaborate on development of metadata standards and on digitization projects; oversee and coordinate metadata review of items submitted to institutional repository (Scholar’s Mine); oversee and coordinate MARC record loads of electronic products; lead the catalog team. Required: ALA-accredited MLS; familiarity with the MARC formats and standard cataloging tools, including AACR2, OCLC, LC cataloging rule interpretations, and subject heading practices. The University of California, Irvine Libraries seek a Head, Monograph Cataloging to provide leadership and expertise in cataloging of monograph publications. Reporting to the Head of the Cataloging Department, the incumbent will manage the Monograph Cataloging Section and will bring vision and energy to implementing effective organization of, and public access to, the Libraries’ monographic publications.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Head, Monograph Cataloging coordinates and participates in the bibliographic control of monographs in all formats. Provides leadership within the Cataloging Department and throughout the Libraries related to public access to monograph publications. Performs original and complex copy cataloging for all types of monographs in a variety of formats, languages and subjects using the Library of Congress and National Library of Medicine classification and subject headings. Provides management, supervision and evaluation of 7.5 FTE staff in the Monograph Cataloging Section. Serves as a resource person regarding monographic cataloging both within the Department and in other areas of the Libraries.

As a member of the Cataloging Policy Committee, participates in developing local cataloging policies and procedures. Keeps abreast of current UC, state, national and international trends and developments in cataloging standards, bibliographic and authority control, information organization, and knowledge management. Participates in other library committees, task forces, and special projects, particularly those related to cataloging, metadata application, and bibliographic control.

La Salle University seeks a technologically sophisticated Media/Digital Services Librarian to manage a growing Audio-Visual department with additional responsibility for the planned digitization of existing collections. A strong academic interest in film studies is required and a current knowledge of copyright laws/issues especially as they pertain to non-print formats will receive preference. This library professional will actively critique and contribute to the library’s Web site, portal presence, and design and implement digital initiatives. In coordination with faculty, the MSL also selects and purchases films and multi-media software. The MSL must be able to coordinate library systems (Innovative Interfaces, Inc) and a variety of technologies in a team environment. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and managing library technology projects and services in conjunction with librarians and campus technology staff. This candidate will possess knowledge of digital content and service development as well as its delivery and promotion. The candidate will develop and implement all policies and systems in digital projects and digital preservation for the campus. The MSL will research, evaluate, test, and recommend methods, standards, and software used in the creation of digital collections.

The Media Services Librarian supervises a staff of 2 full time paraprofessionals and 12+ student-workers. The position reports directly to the Director of Library Services.

The successful candidate will have an ALA-accredited professional degree, or a Master’s degree in another field with appropriate work experience and demonstrated digital project management and supervisory skills. The candidate will also possess superior communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide-range of patrons and faculty. In addition, the MSL will have experience with digital standards (HTML, XML, METS, MOODS, EAD, PHP, SQL and other Web technologies.) The candidate must be familiar with programming and web development technologies including Macromedia, Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, ContentDM, DSpace, and familiarity with metadata, the Dublin Core, and international digital library standards.
