Information Technology/Liaison Librarian (Hollins University)

The Wyndham Robertson Library at Hollins University invites applications for the position of Information Technology/Liaison Librarian.

We are seeking candidates committed to cross-functional librarianship and interested in working in a collaborative library environment dedicated to the support of a liberal arts curriculum. The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter who possesses a high level of energy, flexibility, and creativity and an eagerness to participate fully in the daily life of a small, liberal arts university community. Hollins is a distinguished national liberal arts university, founded in 1842 as one of Virginia’s first chartered women’s colleges. Located in the beautiful Roanoke Valley, Hollins has many outstanding academic programs, including a nationally-recognized English and creative writing program, outstanding internship opportunities, an undergraduate leadership curriculum, extensive study-abroad options, and first year seminars that include information literacy instruction. The Wyndham Robertson Library opened in 1999 and has a staff dedicated to enriching the intellectual life of the university through the integration of resources and services to foster the discovery and effective use of information.
Reporting to the University Librarian, the Information Technology/Liaison Librarian will provide leadership in the development, implementation, maintenance and use of library electronic resources and technologies. The librarian will manage the library web site and library presence on the university portal; have primary responsibility for the ongoing maintenance of the library’s Innovative Interfaces integrated library system; troubleshoot and manage staff and public PCs in the library; serve as liaison to computing services and other units on all library technology issues; and advocate for the interests of library technology through awareness of emerging trends, standards and technologies. The librarian will also serve as a liaison librarian providing collection development, reference, and instructional services to a designated academic division (division responsibilities include all departments in either Division 2- Social Sciences, or Division 3 - Natural Sciences & Mathematics), and will provide regular reference support, including one evening shift per week during the regular academic year.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS degree or other related master’s degree; demonstrated experience with electronic resources and PCs; demonstrated knowledge of web site management utilizing html and wysiwyg editors; excellent oral and written communication skills; interest and ability to provide cross-functional library services including reference, instruction, and collection development; and a demonstrated commitment to professional development. Strong knowledge of several modules of at least one automated library system is preferred.
