Access Services Supervisor (Alliant International University - San Diego)

POSITION TITLE: Senior Library Technician –Access Services Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Operations Librarian

DEPARTMENT: Academic Affairs (Library)

HOURS: 37.5 hours/week (includes nights & weekends).

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time, Non-exempt, salaried

POSITION SUMMARY

The Access Services Supervisor, under the general direction of the Operations Librarian, will be responsible for circulation services including supervision of staff at the circulation desk, all forms of interlibrary loans, and course reserves for the San Diego Campus.

The successful candidate will be dedicated to providing high quality service to all constituencies of Alliant International University. S/he will exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical principles and will be committed to the tenets of Alliant International University’s Mission and Vision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Circulation Desk

§ Oversee circulation desk activities.

§ Assist patrons with book check-in and checkout and other circulation desk operations.

§ Process all notices and bills for unreturned materials.

§ Use judgment to negotiate fine payments and blocked accounts with patrons.

§ Reconcile cashbox and take deposits to student business services.

2. Direct interlibrary loan services including paging, LINK+ and OCLC.

§ Prepare daily shipments of books to over 40 libraries in California including the other Alliant campuses (200-600 items per month).

§ Process incoming Tricor shipments daily.

§ Run interlibrary loan reports including “Clear the hold shelf”.

§ Keep statistics on interlibrary loan requests and send to supervisor monthly.

§ Supervise and back-up interlibrary loans technician with OCLC and Docline requests.

§ Train student assistants to pull and process requested items.

3. Course Reserves

§ Accept and process reserve material received from San Diego faculty for course reserves.

§ Create or update reserve records ensuring all material is searchable the Library’s catalogue. Process so items can be checked out in Millennium Circulation.

§ Assist with e-reserves including scanning items and creating searchable records in catalog.

§ Coordinate returning physical reserve materials at end of term. Update e-reserve records to inactive status.

4. Additional Library Functions

§ Attend LINK+ meets, and training seminars for circulation and interlibrary loans.

§ Update Circulation and Interlibrary Loan manuals.

§ Work on special projects as needed.

§ Future duty – supervisor student assistants including hiring, scheduling, training, and evaluating job performance each year.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or Library Technician Certificate

Experience:

§ 3 years experience with library access and/or technical services.

§ Experience using the OCLC ILL system and Docline.

§ Experience with Innovative library systems and LINK+ preferred.

Management Skills:

§ Good supervisory skills and experience

§ Strong communication, analytical and organizational skills.

§ Ability to make sound decisions with minimal supervision

§ Build and maintain quality relationships with students, faculty and staff

Supervises:

Supervise students working the circulation desk and assisting with interlibrary loans

Technology Skills:

Advanced information technology skills including experience using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc) and HTML.

Other Requirements:

Accurate typing and word processing skills. Strict attention to detail.
