The University of New Hampshire http://www.unh.edu/ invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the University Library. The Dean: The Dean is the senior administrative and financial officer of
the University Library, reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice
President and is a member of the Deans’ Council. Responsibilities
include the direction, development, implementation and evaluation of all
aspects of library services. The Dean oversees 20 librarians with
faculty status, 59 staff, and an effective budget of over $10 million
including a $5 million materials budget. The Dean provides leadership in
library and information technology, working closely with the
University’s Chief Information Officer, and collaborates in fundraising
with the UNH Foundation http://www.foundation.unh.edu/ .

The successful candidate must demonstrate the capacity to advocate for
the Library; foster an organizational culture based on respect, service,
teamwork, personal and professional growth, and accountability; possess
the leadership, managerial, and

communication skills required to work effectively with the Library’s
many constituencies; and display sensitivity and responsiveness to
issues of diversity and multiculturalism.

The Library: The UNH Library http://www.library.unh.edu/ consists of
the Dimond Library and four branch libraries
<http://www.library.unh.edu/branches/branches.shtml> , which specialize
in science, mathematics, and engineering. The Library holds 1.7 million
volumes and offers extensive periodical holdings and electronic
resources. It is a member of the Boston Library Consortium
<http://www.blc.org/index.html> and is a depository for federal, state,
and Canadian documents <http://docs.unh.edu/> . The University Library
also shares resources with the campus library
<http://www.unhm.unh.edu/library.html> at the University of New
Hampshire at Manchester <http://www.unhm.unh.edu/> .

The University: The University of New Hampshire is a land-, sea- and
space-grant public university, located in Durham on a 188-acre campus,
60 miles north of Boston, 8 miles from the Atlantic coast and convenient
to New Hampshire’s lakes and mountains. UNH is the flagship institution
of the University System of New Hampshire <http://www.usnh.edu/> . As a
Carnegie Doctoral/Research-Extensive institution, the University enrolls
13,700 students, has a full-time faculty of 660, and offers over 90
undergraduate and 70 graduate programs. UNH faculty are represented by

Management (RCM), a decentralized budget <http://www.unh.edu/rcm/>
management system adopted in 2000, is a distinctive financial feature of
the University.

Qualifications: Required: Masters degree in library science from an
ALA-accredited program and an earned doctorate from an accredited
program; a record of increasing professional and managerial
responsibility and scholarly attainment consonant with the awarding of
tenure; proven leadership in strategic and fiscal planning; demonstrated
analytic and strategic skills in prioritization, resource allocation,
decision-making, and managing change; demonstrated knowledge of trends
in both librarianship and information technology as it applies to
library applications and services. Demonstrated success in higher
education leadership, including the ability to work collaboratively with
diverse constituents is preferred.
