This position reports to the Head of Cataloging. Position responsibilities are as follows: Create original and complex copy cataloging records following national standards and local practices for the cataloging of electronic resources, archival materials, and other special formats; collaborate with staff to develop policies and procedures for handling metadata and to maximize patron access to electronic resources and other materials; participate in database maintenance and quality control for all bibliographic and authority records in the database; serve as liaison to vendors and obtain records for import/export; train Cataloging and Archives staff in cataloging procedures for electronic resources, archival materials, and other special formats.
The following qualifications are required: ALA-accredited MLS degree; recent professional cataloging experience; demonstrated knowledge of current cataloging and archival rules and standards including AACR2rev, LCSH, MARC formats, EAD, and other metadata schema; awareness of current trends and developments in cataloging and metadata; experience with Innovative or other automated library systems. Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work independently; and reading knowledge of one or more Western European languages.
