Metadata Librarian, Cataloging & Metadata Services Department,
Responsibilities include providing leadership, expertise and management relating to metadata production for description, access and preservation of digital materials acquired or held by the UT Libraries or in cooperation with the Texas Digital Library. Additionally, this position will collaborate with appropriate personnel and working groups to advise on the application of current and emerging metadata schema to facilitate access to digital collections. The librarian will also investigate and develop applications for improving access to digital collections and facilitate metadata scheme specification and adaptation. Additionally, this position will coordinate the work of staff involved in metadata production including providing training and technical assistance to other department staff. The librarian will also coordinate the formulation & implementation of policies & standards for descriptive, technical and administrative metadata that are used to support the production, management of and access to the Libraries’ digital collections. This position will also serve as a resource person and will participate in the Library’s research and development efforts and prepare necessary documentation and reports.
The librarian will work closely with and report to the Head Librarian for Cataloging & Metadata Services. Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8AM – 5PM. Some holiday and overtime work may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated excellent planning, leadership, communication, and project management skills. Awareness of current and emerging issues in Institutional and Open Repository schemes. Experience working in an academic research library. Experience in traditional cataloging standards and practices using MARC, AACR2, LCSH and LC classification. Familiarity with emerging cataloging/metadata schemes. Familiarity with the OAIS reference model. Familiarity with copyright issues, digital rights, preservation and technical metadata. Ability to take an active role in leading and managing metadata initiatives associated with institutional repositories and digital archives. Successful candidate will display evidence of initiative, creativity and resourcefulness and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a collegial environment.
Salary and Benefits:
$44,000 - $50,000 annually, depending upon qualifications. No state or local income tax. Standard state benefits package including annual vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, retirement plans, and health insurance (comprehensive major medical, dental, vision, life, and disability). Deferred compensation and tax sheltered annuity programs also available.
