Library Manager 2 - Collection Development- Nashville Public Library

Position Description: This position is with the Metropolitan Public Library of Nashville and Davidson County and is responsible for overseeing the management of system’s collection. Duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: coordinating materials selection and acquisitions for the entire library system which includes the downtown Main Library and 22 branches throughout the county; developing and implementing methods to evaluate collections and their effectiveness; evaluating and implementing new formats; managing materials budget and expenditures; ordering/receipt of materials; facilitating the maintenance of the on-going collection; assisting in the development of collection policies; developing and presenting reports on collections; and supervision of staff.
Minimum requirements include a Masters Degree in Library Science from an
accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional
library experience, including two (2) years acting in a lead or
supervisory capacity, familiarity with large automated library systems,
effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills,
strong service orientation and commitment to professional growth. The
MLS degree must be from an ALA accredited program.
Preferred Knowledge/Abilities/Experience: Knowledge of publications
sources and reviewing media, knowledge of electronic resources as they
apply to collection development, knowledge of III online acquisition and
serial systems, knowledge of the principles and practices of library
service. Ability to anticipate library trends in collection development,
ability to design and implement programs consistent with established
goals, and ability to provide leadership in collection development.
