Metadata Librarian, Cataloging & Metadata Services Department, (University of Texas Libraries, Austin)

The Metadata Librarian is responsible for planning and managing metadata production for digital projects of the University of Texas Libraries and the Texas Digital Library.

Responsibilities include providing leadership, expertise and management relating to metadata production for description, access and preservation of digital materials acquired or held by the UT Libraries or in cooperation with the Texas Digital Library. Additionally, this position will collaborate with appropriate personnel and working groups to advise on the application of current and emerging metadata schema to facilitate access to digital collections. The librarian will also investigate and develop applications for improving access to digital collections and facilitate metadata scheme specification and adaptation. Additionally, this position will coordinate the work of staff involved in metadata production including providing training and technical assistance to other department staff. The librarian will also coordinate the formulation & implementation of policies & standards for descriptive, technical and administrative metadata that are used to support the production, management of and access to the Libraries’ digital collections. This position will also serve as a resource person and will participate in the Library’s research and development efforts and prepare necessary documentation and reports.

TECHNICAL SERVICES LIBRARIAN:  Monographs (VASSAR COLLEGE)

Oversight of efficient operation of the Monographic Unit (with an emphasis
on acquisitions) is the central responsibility of this position.  The
position reports to the Assistant Director for Technical Services. Vassar

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all
acquisitions, cataloging and processing functions of the Monographs Unit
for all formats (print, audio, video, electronic, microformat) including:
ordering, receiving, invoicing, claiming, vendor assessment, cataloging,
physical processing (including materials repair), binding, statistical
analyses and other related functions; coordinating the work of the
Monographic Unit with other appropriate areas to ensure efficient workflow
and communication; overseeing materials budgets; interacting with book
vendors; reviewing original cataloging; supervising unit staff.

The position also involves participation in departmental and library-wide
projects (including digital initiatives); service on library-wide
committees; and provision of reference service.  Liaison service to
academic departments, bibliographic instruction, and collection development
may be provided by the incumbent, as appropriate.

Assistant Dean for Collection Services (University of Houston)

Responsibilities: Provides leadership to staff engaged in maintaining and enhancing the services, operations, processes, and systems that support print and digital collections. Oversees all activities associated with collection development, acquisitions, licensing, cataloging, and access for materials in all formats. Four departments — Collections, Acquisitions, Cataloging and Metadata, and Access services — report to this position with a total of approximately 50 FTE staff. An essential task will be the development of the newly formed Collections Department. Responsible for establishing policy, setting goals, evaluating and refining procedures, and providing supervision and leadership in the adoption of new methods or the redesign of existing processes in a rapidly changing work environment. Provides general oversight of the Libraries’ $7+ million collections budget. Participates in overall management and guidance of the Libraries as a member of the administrative leadership group.

The Assistant Dean for Collection Services is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic ranks pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Governance document. They are expected to develop a record of service and professional involvement.

Biola University Library–La Mirada, California, USA–seeks a Technical
Services Librarian to begin July 6, 2007 or as soon thereafter as possible.

The Technical Services Librarian opening is a full-time, forty-hour per
week, twelve-month position. A successful candidate will hold an
ALA-accredited MLS degree or its equivalent, possess excellent
organizational and communication skills, and have sufficient background
and experience to 1) supervise the Acquisitions, Cataloging, and
Processing Departments; 2) serve at reference and in the library
instruction program as needed; 3) do committee work; and 4) carry out
other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Library. The work schedule may
include one night per week and/or rotating weekend reference duty.  The

POSITION: TRLN Endeca Implementation Librarian (12-month Fixed Term Appointment)

The Triangle Research Libraries Network seeks a motivated, innovative,
collaborative, and knowledgeable individual to work with the member
libraries to develop a next-generation consortial library catalog. The
position offers an excellent opportunity to work with talented staff
across four research institutions. The new catalog will be based on the
award-winning Endeca Information Access Platform and will greatly
enhance access to the combined TRLN resources.

The TRLN Endeca Implementation Librarian will serve as technical lead
for the implementation of a shared library catalog across the
collections of the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), Duke
University, North Carolina State University, and North Carolina Central
University. The Implementation Librarian will work directly with
cross-institutional teams to identify data and user interface
requirements, and with technical staff at Endeca to implement the
capabilities of the system. The Implementation Librarian will also be
responsible for building back-end server processes and developing the
front-end user interface (Java).

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• ALA-accredited Masters degree or an equivalent combination of relevant
education and experience
• Experience programming with Java
• Experience developing web sites including XHTML, CSS, and Javascript
• Knowledge of library metadata formats, particularly MARC
• Facility with Unix/Linux operating system in a server environment
• Working knowledge of a scripting language
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative
team environment

Preferred
• Experience creating Java web applications using a JSP/Java
Bean/Servlet framework
• Experience with Perl scripting language
• Demonstrated project management skills
• Familiarity with integrated library systems

TRIANGLE RESEARCH LIBRARIES NETWORK
Founded in 1977 and based on cooperation among academic research
libraries of the Research Triangle dating back to 1933, Triangle
Research Libraries Network is a resource-sharing consortium consisting
of Duke University, North Carolina Central University (NCCU), North
Carolina State University (NCSU), and the University of North Carolina

SALARY AND BENEFITS
