Cataloger (Art Center College of Design James Lemont Fogg Memorial Library)

Duties/Responsibilities:
Use Innovative Interfaces, OCLC Connexion Client, DDC, LCSH to catalog materials in both print and electronic formats, in a variety of subject areas, focusing on art and design. Perform both copy and original cataloging.  Create authorities by individual downloads from OCLC or originally.  Work to convert legacy non-OCLC/LCSH authorities to these forms. Follow national standards of MARC 21, and AACR II and revisions, along with customized departmental standards. Develop policies and procedures.
Supervise one Book Processing Assistant. Prepare book materials for bindery and process upon return. Work collaboratively with Systems Administrator and other staff to improve access to database. Establish policies for tracking and reordering lost materials.
Keep abreast of new cataloging policies and trends.


Required:
MLS.
Experience using an automated library system; Innovative Interfaces highly
preferred.
Bibliographic knowledge of one Romance and one Germanic (German preferred)
language.
At least three years of cataloging experience.
Ability to lift 10-15 pound boxes.

Preferred:
Working knowledge of DDC.
Experience cataloging electronic resources.
Background in art history and design.

The James Lemont Fogg Memorial Library offers a comprehensive collection of
resources on art and design, including 86,000 volumes of books and
periodicals, 110,000 slides, and 8,000 videotapes and DVDs of rare features,
animation, documentaries, advertising, computer graphics, and instructional
programs. A photo-reference collection contains more than 90,000 pictures.
Limited and signed editions, portfolios, and other materials can be found in
the Rare Book Room. Subscriptions are maintained for more than 400
magazines, while web-based subscriptions provide access to thousands of
magazine articles and images as well as other resources.
