Duties/Responsibilities:
Use Innovative Interfaces, OCLC Connexion Client, DDC, LCSH to catalog materials in both print and electronic formats, in a variety of subject areas, focusing on art and design. Perform both copy and original cataloging.  Create authorities by individual downloads from OCLC or originally.  Work to convert legacy non-OCLC/LCSH authorities to these forms. Follow national standards of MARC 21, and AACR II and revisions, along with customized departmental standards. Develop policies and procedures.
Supervise one Book Processing Assistant. Prepare book materials for bindery and process upon return. Work collaboratively with Systems Administrator and other staff to improve access to database. Establish policies for tracking and reordering lost materials.
Keep abreast of new cataloging policies and trends.

The University of California, Irvine Libraries are seeking a dynamic leader to join an enthusiastic staff in building a research library of excellence for a young and rapidly-growing university ranked nationally in the top universities. The Director of Information Technology will work in a collaborative environment of evolving institutional expectations and will manage growth and change to assure that high quality information technology systems and services continue to support the needs of the Libraries’ staff and client community.

Duties & Responsibilities (full description)

The successful candidate will play a critical role in providing innovative and responsive leadership in strategic planning, development, implementation, management, and coordination of information technologies and systems across the libraries.

As a member of the Technical Services Department Heads group, the Technical Services Management Group, chair of the Information Technologies Management Committee, and member of Library Council, the incumbent participates in library-wide planning and policy making, and leads collaborative efforts to establish and attain strategic goals to meet the information technology (IT) needs of the Libraries’ staff and patrons. Through effective communication, consultation, and collaboration, the incumbent builds consensus about the Libraries’ IT direction and implementation priorities and makes decisions about appropriate courses of action. S/he evaluates the resources required to accomplish planned service levels and strategic priorities; oversees development of disaster prevention and recovery plans; employs assessment tools to measure effectiveness of IT systems and services across the Libraries; coordinates campus support and technical relationships with appropriate departments; attends local, regional, and national meetings to maintain currency with developments in technology.

Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Technical Services, the Director of Information Technologies manages the Information Technology Department, promoting effective customer service and a commitment to continuous service improvement. The Director has responsibility for personnel management and will build and maintain expertise within the department through staff training and professional development. S/he conveys a broad understanding among departmental personnel of university and library policies, oversees the creation and accomplishment of departmental annual plans in the context of the Libraries’ strategic goals, manages departmental budgets, and is responsible for the development of policies and procedures for the department. The Director oversees the design, development, and implementation of the Libraries’ information technologies identified as top priorities, promoting interoperability and maintaining quality control within the Libraries’ systems. On the UCI campus, s/he collaborates with the heads of administrative and academic units on policy and operational planning within the larger context of the campus network and systems. S/he also works collaboratively with University of California colleagues system-wide in consortial initiatives and opportunities.

The Kresge Business Administration Library at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, seeks energetic, creative, and service-focused candidates for the position of Collection Development Librarian. The position is a 12-month position in a non-tenure track environment and it reports to the library director.  It will be filled at the Associate Librarian rank.

Responsibilities:
The Collection Development Librarian will lead activities associated with the management of the Kresge Library resources.  This includes: coordinating selection activities; evaluating collection priorities for materials in all formats (print, periodicals, electronic, etc.); serve as the primary library selector/liaison to selected academic departments & centers; work with library systems and university offices to ensure proper steps are taken for new and renewed electronic resources; and
with the library director, manage the materials budget and license agreements for library resources.  In addition, the Collection Development Librarian will participate in business reference activities and instructional efforts to promote library resources, work with student groups, including Multidisciplinary Action Program (MAP) teams and summer interns.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of Public Services, the creative individual filling this strategic department head position is expected to envision and direct the future development of the Libraries’ media collections and services by playing a vital leadership role in the development of Lied Library’s new, student-focused multimedia design studio and its next generation media distribution system as well as the management of its computer commons. Specific responsibilities include planning and implementing departmental goals, policies, procedures and budget proposals and administering a department with 6 paraprofessionals and a large student work force; collaborating with liaison librarians and teaching faculty to build and provide access to a media collection that is responsive to newly developing technologies and supportive of student learning; leading the strategic evolution of multimedia services within the libraries, including its analog to digital transition efforts; and participating in the Libraries’ digital rights management efforts. The position serves as the Public Services liaison with the Libraries Systems Department regarding public workstation hardware and software configurations and provides media desk coverage, including weekends on rotation.

The media collection supports the curriculum and research needs of the University and currently consists of over 18,000 items in a variety of formats, including VHS videotapes, DVD videodiscs, compact discs, audiocassettes and a small collection of vinyl recordings and laserdiscs. Services offered by departmental staff currently include staffing a computer help desk providing computer help for users of Lied Library’s 250 public computers and peripherals located throughout the library as well as the resources in the Library’s multimedia design studio and disability resource room; providing reference assistance at the media service desk, circulating laptop computers in-house, and using the Safari media distribution system to deliver media resources to users.

As a tenure-track library faculty member, the incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively to build partnerships within the Libraries; engage in scholarly activities; and provide service to the university, the community, and the profession in accordance with Libraries and University standards for promotion and tenure.

Duties
Under the supervision of the Collection Management Librarian, this position is responsible for maintaining and facilitating patron access to serials and electronic resources selected for inclusion in the library’s collection. Specific duties include: creating and maintaining records of the library’s serials holdings in the online catalog and other databases, generating and submitting serials claims to vendors or publishers, contacting vendors or publishers when necessary to register  for services or resolve problems, participating in evaluating and implementing evolving software and computer systems related to serials
and electronic resources management, and assisting in maintaining procedural documentation.

Description: This position provides first line support for Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium ILS, the OCLC system, and other computer applications. The incumbent resolves problems identified by users and via problem reporting software and documents and communicates solutions. The incumbent will work with ILS and other computer application vendor support and will assist in the planning and coordination of activities
related to ILS developments and upgrades. The incumbent will also develop and implement testing strategies related to system use and changes, and develop and conduct training workshops as needed.

Assists the Serials Department by addressing and resolving varied problems relating to the processing of serials at all points, including, but not limited to purchasing, claiming, processing and collection maintenance. In the absence of the Head of Acquisitions and Serials Control, assists in the supervision of the department.
