The University of Miami Libraries is searching for a minimum of three talented, enthusiastic, and multifaceted individuals who are information and technology savvy to assist in the development and provision of the Libraries’ information, research and instructional services program for the University of Miami community. The Libraries seek to create a dynamic program fully integrated with the University’s mission to strengthen the teaching and learning environment that will attract interest and appeal to the learning styles of today’s students. These positions offer a unique opportunity to promote and facilitate new roles for the Libraries in both undergraduate and graduate education.

THE POSITIONS: Reporting to the Head of Information, Research, and Instructional Services (IRIS), the Information, Research, and Instruction Librarians will work collaboratively with library faculty and staff to develop, provide, and assess information, technology, research, and instruction assistance; provide subject based consultations;  develop and revise web pages in support of assigned departments and subject areas; develop outreach activities to promote library programming, resources and services; develop resources and implement workshops and sessions in real and virtual environments; select, assess, and manage collections and resources; participate as departmental liaisons; monitor budgets and make collections decisions; maintain current awareness and developments in librarianship, information technology, and instructional technology; and collaborate with internal and external constituents. The exact combination of duties and specific subject and liaison areas assigned are flexible and will be determined by the profiles of the most qualified applicants. Specialty areas needed are social sciences, physical sciences, communication, government information, education, data services, and GIS (geographic information systems).

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA accredited master’s degree or equivalent; recent experience with library instruction/information literacy and information/reference service in an academic or research library; educational background in a subject area or experience performing reference, instruction and/or collection development in a subject area; ability to assist and instruct users and students in specialized resources; superb interpersonal and communication skills; commitment to user-centered library service and the promotion of information literacy; ability to work independently and in teams in a dynamic changing environment; excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse population; a commitment to the importance of excellence in teaching and scholarship; the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, faculty, and University administration; strong commitment to professional development; skill in developing, organizing, and maintaining web-based information resources; ability to positively represent and promote the interests of the library in the community. Preferred: Experience with collection development.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Compensation will be competitive and will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the person selected. Twelve-month appointment at Librarian Assistant or Librarian Associate Professor rank.
