The Director of Digital Initiatives and Services will provide leadership in the development and expansion of digital technologies, services, and resources that facilitate and enhance learning, teaching, and research as well as creating an infrastructure for digital development and preservation.

THE POSITION: Reporting to the Deputy University Librarian, the Director of Digital Initiatives and Services will provide leadership in the development and expansion of digital technologies, services, and resources that facilitate and enhance learning, teaching, and research as well as creating an infrastructure for digital development and preservation. The Director will partner with appropriate library faculty to develop processes and methods for the selection of materials to be published in digital formats, and the organization, presentation, and preservation of digital assets. The Director develops standards and best practices for digital development, coordinates and monitors digital projects Library-wide; expands Digital Services, support, and training, and builds the operations of the digital media lab to assist and support digital production; works with Information Management and Systems to support the creation of interfaces between digital library holdings and other information discovery tools. The Director will participate in Libraries planning as a member of the Departmental Representatives Group, and the  Libraries Management Team, and is responsible for the direct supervision and mentoring of 3 faculty and 1 professional staff. The Director provides effective fiscal oversight, and builds collaborative relationships with the staff and faculty of the University; considers ways to partner with faculty and other campus entities to create an institutional infrastructure to manage and preserve digital initiatives; effectively assesses programming and services; provides knowledge and expertise in the area of digital rights management; aggressively pursues external support for digital programs through grants and gifts; actively participates in relevant national and international organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master’s degree in library and information science, computer science, instructional technology or related fields, and a minimum of 5 years experience in a library or academic computing environment. Demonstrated experience in project development, management, implementation, and assessment. Extensive experience and knowledge of operations and best practices in the development and application of digital technology. Significant participation in the development of a digital library program. Sophisticated understanding of digital library technology, resources, services, and preservation. Strong service orientation; well developed interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong leadership, fiscal, supervisory, organizational, and management skills. Successful experience with writing and directing grant-funded projects. Knowledge of the current role and future trends of research libraries in higher education, and the ability to cultivate and support the use of digital initiatives to advance library services, and interactive learning. Evidence of continued professional development. Preferred: Engagement in national and international digital library development communities.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications of the person selected. This is a twelve-month appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor rank. Tenure-track or non-tenure options are available.
