The Director of Access, Information, and Research Services provides
vision and leadership for all areas within AIRS and will develop an
information access program that is engaging, interactive and supportive
for the undergraduate and graduate experience and work to develop
collaborative relationships and partnerships with faculty, and other
University entities and services.

THE POSITION: Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Director of Access, Information & Research Services provides vision and leadership for Information, Research & Instructional Services, the Dante Fascell Government Information Service, the Information Commons, Access Services, Interlibrary Loan, Instruction support, Copyright Services, and the Libraries off-site facilities. The Director will develop an information access program that is engaging, interactive and supportive for the undergraduate and graduate experience, and work to develop collaborative relationships and partnerships with faculty, other University entities and services, and other institutions to create new ways to enhance and support teaching and learning. The Director will develop a programmatic synergy within the public service environment to better utilize and enhance service and support by developing cross training and developmental opportunities for staff between departments to achieve more efficient operations. The Director will transform the Information Commons into a Learning Commons that provides useful and effective technology and services for students and faculty; and develop successful ways to communicate and promote the Libraries. The Director will work with the Deputy UL to develop and implement an assessment program to analyze efficiency and impact; develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure copyright compliance; provide oversight of departmental budgets; maintain knowledge of national developments and trends in all areas of Information and Access services. The Director will participate as a member of the Departmental Representatives group and the Libraries Management Team.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required - Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent; a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in academic research libraries; experience managing a major public services department/unit in a complex and rapidly changing environment, demonstrated project management and organizational skills; ability to effectively supervise, evaluate, motivate, and mentor staff;  familiarity with current practices for copyright compliance; demonstrated effective fiscal management; commitment to diversity; excellent communication skills; demonstrated experience with faculty and students in a library public service area; the ability to work collegially with faculty, staff, and students; evidence of continued professional development; familiarity with current and emerging trends and technologies related to all aspects of library public services to include reference, circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, and/or document delivery systems, and information commons development and strategies. Preferred: Experience with Innovative Interfaces inc., and space planning.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Compensation will be competitive and will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the person selected. Twelve-month appointment at Assistant or Associate Professor rank.
